Don't you just love a freebie? I know I do.
I've been in two occasions recently as a customer, when I was given an unexpected freebie. Just after ordering my usual bagel and coffee at the Bagel Bar, the girl behind the counter offered me a bottle of mineral water for free. I was about to ask for a glass of water anyway, so it came as a welcome surprise.
Several days later, I went buying a steak at the meat section in my local supermarket. I was having a chat with the guy at the cashier about the fact that there didn't seem to be too much meat for that much money.
He obviously took pity on my unhappy face when he said - "Tell you what sir, you may have this other steak for the same price" and he placed another one on top!
So what's the customer service lesson here? The lesson is that most of the customers love a freebie and if they receive one from a supplier it develops a positive relationship. When people purchase items at your online business, on the download page, give them unanticipated freebies and they will love you for that.
As customers, we're more likely to come back and do business with those who give us freebies and we're more willing to tell other people regarding our positive experience. It's good approach to give your customers freebies on occasions but don't over do it. If you blast your email list with gifts on daily basis you will certainly miss the target and your internet marketing business is going to suffer for it..
One day I read a story article about a restaurant owner who would at times give people a free meal. When a group of diners or a family asked for the bill he would suddenly announce that on this occasion they were his guests and they have to pay nothing for their meal.
